Believing in Jesus Christ:
Foundations of Christian Faith
by Leanne van Dyk
The goal of the Foundations of Christian Faith series is
to enable readers to learn about theology in ways that are clear, enjoyable and
meaningful. Each volume examines the doctrines of the Christian faith and stimulates
readers not only to think more deeply about their faith but also to lead them
to understand their faith in relationship to contemporary challenges and questions.
Individuals and study groups alike will find these guides invaluable in their
search for depth and integrity in their Christian faith.
In this brief and accessible volume, Leanne Van Dyk examines
the person and work of Jesus Christ and discusses what the church teaches about
Jesus. Van Dyk offers a clear explanation of salvation and presents theories
of how we receive salvation through Jesus' death and resurrection. In addition,
she explores the significance of salvation for how we as a Christian community
live out our faith in Jesus Christ.
Leanne Van Dyk is a Presbyterian minister who has taught theology at San Francisco
Theological Seminary. She currently teaches theology at Western Theological Seminary
in Holland, Michigan.

The Holy Spirit — Book
and Study Guide
by Mateen Elass
The book and study guide are designed especially to facilitate group discussion
and reflection. They can be used in adult Sunday school classes as well as in
other educational settings. The study guide generally provides for eight sessions
of book study and four Bible studies that relate to the themes of the book, so
the study guide Item #624701 can be used for as many as twelve sessions.
The Holy Spirit is easily overlooked in our tradition because of our Christ-centered
approach to theology. Who and what exactly is this seemingly ephemeral Person
of the Trinity, and what is its relationship to God and Jesus Christ? Elass offers
a helpful guide through the mystery of the Holy Spirit from a Reformed perspective.

Christian Worship:
Glorifying and Enjoying God
by Ronald P. Byars
This second book in the Foundations of Christian Faith Series,
also commissioned by the Office of Theology and Worship of the
PC(USA), deals with the importance of worship in Word and Sacrament
in a time of rapid change. Does it matter what happens in worship?
Can more than one generation worship together? The book suggests
that resources often hidden away in the church's treasury can
be dusted off and brought out of storage to contribute to the
renewal of a vital worship.
Ronald P. Byars is Professor of Preaching and Worship at Union
Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education
(Union - PSCE) in Richmond, Virginia.

Creation and Last Things: At
the Intersection of Theology and Science
by Gregory S. Cootsona
Cootsona emphasizes theology more than science in this book
but works to meld God, science, end times, and creation into
one big picture. The book covers subjects such as what it means
for God to be the creator, how God gives meaning to a universe
that is wholly dependent on him, the implications of being created
in Gods image, how all is not right with creation, and
the effects of hope in Christ on the way we live.
