Celebrate good preaching

Each week, pastors faithfully proclaim God’s word to their churches and communities, most of whom will not make it into preaching history books despite being fine preachers.
Good preaching helps God transform lives, so each week we want to feature one of the many good sermons that are being delivered in our church around the United States.
Of course, just watching or listening to a sermon is no substitute for actually being there. Most good sermons are an eventful, you-had-to-be-there kind of thing in order to receive the full impact of the gospel. This is not intended to replace church participation in a local congregation, but to celebrate what’s happening around the denomination.
God our helper, by your Holy Spirit, open our minds, that as the Scriptures are read and your Word is proclaimed, we may be led into your truth and taught your will, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (Book of Common Worship, 90.)
Our first sermon is from the Rev. Henry Pearce, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Niles, Ohio, who preached this sermon there in 2007.
This sermon isn’t exactly current, so update us! Send news of stellar sermons to Teresa Stricklen.
In the meantime, listen, be challenged and rejoice in the good news of Christ, our goodly heritage.
