National Black Presbyterian Caucus Convention
“Saved to Serve: Equipping the Saints for the Work of Ministry” (Ephesians 4.11-12)

Greetings from the Planning Committee of the National Black
Presbyterian Caucus. We would like to invite you to join us for the
National Black Presbyterian Caucus’ 40th Convention, July 30-
August 2, 2009.
The theme of the convention is “Saved to Serve: Equipping the
Saints for the Work of Ministry” Ephesians 4:11-12. The focus of the
convention will be the African American Church Growth Strategy.
We will offer day long workshops in the six areas of the Strategy:
- Leadership Development
- Youth
- Young Adult/Discipleship
- Evangelism
- Clergy Women
- and New Church Development.
We
look forward to learning from leaders who are experts in all of the
church growth areas, some of whom are the Rev. Dr. Lonnie Oliver
from Atlanta, Georgia, Elder Mark Jones from Los Angeles, California, and the Rev.
Andrew Stephens from Nashville Tennessee.
Our featured worship speakers are the Rev. Chineta Goodjoin,
organizing pastor of New Hope PC(USA), Orange California, the Rev. Wayne
Steele, pastor peace PC(USA), Louisville, Kentucky, and the Rev. Brian
Henderson, pastor, Parkway Gardens United PC(USA), Memphis,
Tennessee. The General Assembly Moderator, the Rev. Bruce Reyes-Chow,
will be the keynote speaker for the Elder Hawkins Banquet and Ms.
Billie Jean Young will be the featured speaker for the Lucy Craft
Laney Luncheon. Many events are planned for the youth, including
a block party and an opportunity to record a musical CD using the
recording studio on the campus. On Saturday all attendees are
invited to visit the Civil Rights Museum of Birmingham.
