Building Leadership in Second Generation Ministry
Many Asian American Congregations are facing a major challenge in ministering
to their second-generation children, youth, and young adults. These younger members,
who have lived in the United States their entire lives, while adopting much of
American culture, find it extremely difficult to provide the leadership to meet
their needs. Conference and training events are provided for potential leaders
to help them to discover their gifts for ministry and to respond to the call
of God and the church. |

Building Leadership in Lay Ministry
The church has become a vital part of Asian
American congregations, the majority of their people being immigrants who are
trying to adapt to new homes in the United States. Leader development in these
non-English speaking churches requires special attention to language and culture.
Lay Ministry includes the leader development of women, men, and officers of the
church. Through training events and conferences, the development of these leaders
focuses on using their talents and resources to the fullest. |

Building Leadership in Educational Ministry
Christian Education in Asian American
congregations incorporates Asian heritage into ministry and teaching. By interpreting
the bicultural context of the church, an appropriate approach is used to develop
leaders in educational ministry. The conference and leader development training
is targeted towards professional educators, church school teachers, parents,
ministers engaged in education ministry and Bible study leaders. |

Building Leadership through Communication
Asian American Information Ministry provides an unified resources for information useful to and
accessible to all members of the Church, in particular, members and leaders at
Korean American churches supporting English speaking ministries. It establishes
a medium for communication among Korean American churches with pastors, Christian
educators, and lay leaders including young adult, college and high school student
leaders. |

Educating Educators
Have you ever had dreams for your church’s Christian education program? Have you wondered how you could bring them to reality? The Asian-American Leader Development program partners with Asian-American congregations through the Educational Ministry Team (EMT). Grace Suh, EMT National Coordinator, is enthusiastic about the program. “When a congregation decides it needs training, they call and arrange a date with us and we go. The training usually takes place over a weekend at the hosting congregation. It’s that simple.”
EMT works closely with the Association of Presbyterian Certified Educators in preparing the instructional materials, which are presented in PowerPoint and include many concrete examples. The materials become the property of the congregation so the instruction is constantly available as a refresher or for training as new teachers come on board.
Grace adds, “This program is exciting because few Asian-American churches have professional educators on their staff. This brings training to them. It gives teachers the skills they need and helps them teach with confidence. Stronger teachers means stronger believers, and I think that is what the church is all about!”
EMT helps congregations make their dreams reality by bringing teacher training directly to them.
