Keep up with the exciting things happening through your gifts to the Presbyterian Church (USA) Special Offerings. We'll be posting about a wide range of topics, including: how your dollars are used around the world, promotion strategies for use in your local congregations, as well as stories about how Presbyterians are using Special Offerings gifts to make an impact in their own communities.
First of all, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to those who made the decision over the past few weeks to give to One Great Hour of Sharing. Because of your gifts, the Presbyterian Mission Agency is able to do great things in the lives of real people.
In this year's video series, you've already heard from a man who's family has been blessed through an abundance of food made available to them through a community garden project in Eugene, Oregon, and you've heard from some of the hardworking Presbyterian Disaster Assistance volunteers who continue to invest their time to offer hope to those most affected by Superstorm Sandy.
Even though most churches received One Great Hour of Sharing this past Sunday, we wanted to share one more video with you about how your gifts to this offering are making a difference, as well communicate an important point that we sometimes forget to make: although One Great Hour of Sharing comes around just once each year, the needs that are being met through your gifts are on-going. Nowhere is this more true than in the city of New Orleans whose citizens are still struggling to recover from a storm that took place nearly nine years ago.
In the video below, you'll hear from Troy Glover, a New Orleans resident and native who survived the historic storm and now works as the Self Development of People (SDOP) Young Adult Community Liaison, a position in which he can help affect change on those things he's most passionate about: the citizens and city of New Orleans. In addition, you'll also hear from a couple of people who have benefited directly from an organization called A Community Voice, which received a recent grant from SDOP, which of course was funded through your generous One Great Hour of Sharing gifts!
Because the needs that are being addressed by OGHS-supported ministries/programs are so great, we also wanted to inform you of an opportunity to make a year-round impact through monthly giving. This opportunity offers a number of benefits, the most important being the ability to make a long-term commitment to helping folks who could use some extra stability and hope in their lives. Even if you choose to give just a small gift each month, you will in effect be embracing a lifestyle of generosity.
If you'd like to join others who are already a part of this movement towards monthly giving, please visit the One Great Hour of Sharing donation site and make sure to check the box next to "I'd like to make this a recurring donation."
Thank you and have a great weekend!
