Environmental Justice: paying attention to people

Environmental Justice is a term used to indicate that certain sectors of the human population suffer from the worst affects of environmental disaster and are kept from the best of environmental benefits. Correlating with a lot of other structural issues of injustice, people of color and people in lower economic brackets are documented to be living closest to the most toxic sites and farthest from beneficial ones.

What kinds of tables are you trying to turn, or transform, for Jesus?

We are gathering a diverse community on fire for justice and Jesus! Join us August 1-3, 2013 at "Turning the Tables: A Compassion, Peace and Justice Big Tent Summit", where we will explore the tables or structures that hold up systems of injustice and violence, and learn how to turn over those tables in our own local contexts (or even in the church). This hands-on conference will provide: visits to local community gardens and environmental justice sites; community organizing training; creative worship service; interactive workshops; art and play; and skills to take back home.

Stewardship Pledge for God's Good Earth

Earlier this month Presbyterians gathered in Indianapolis for Big Tent.  There I had the opportunity to talk with many Presbyterians involved in earth care ministries.  Rev. Lou Snead, pastor at Faith Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas shared a resource with me that I wanted to pass along to other congregations that might be interested in incorporating environmental stewardship into their stewardship pledges.
