World AIDS Day - for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS - for us all

AIDS RibbonOur partners in the Presbyterian AIDS Network of PHEWA remind us of the importance of World AIDS Day:

December 1, 2012 marks World AIDS Day (WAD), a day of awareness and action in the struggle to eradicate HIV and AIDS. World AIDS Day brings together people from around the world to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS and to demonstrate international solidarity. General Assembly grants Palestine non-member observer State status at UN

Today, the United Nations General Assembly grants Palestine non-member observer State status at UN.  The vote passed with 138 members voting in favor, 9 against, and the remaining abstaining.

Rocky Walker preachingRocky Walker serves as the liaison between New York Theological Seminary where he is a student and the Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations. In this role, he helps promote events happening in the faith-based NGO community at the UN to the seminary community.
On November 15, 2012, Rocky led the morning prayers at the Church Center for the United Nations. In his sermon, he reminded the listeners that we are all "Prime Ministers." Of course, Rocky meant this a little differently than our common understanding:

Now this title has actually been around for almost 400 yrs. In today's ...

Going orange to end violence against women and girls

November 25 was the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon invites the world to join  the UN Secretary-General’s UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign on the 25th of every month by observing an Orange Day.

Several Presbyterian congregations took action and bore witness for an end to violence against women on November 25:
