Support the Violence Against Women Act

While all Senators need to hear from religious advocates about our support for the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), it is especially critical that people of faith from Iowa, Texas, Arizona, South Carolina, Oklahoma, and Alabama call their Senators NOW as the Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote on VAWA at 10:00 am Thursday morning!
In November, Senators Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Mike Crapo (R-ID), introduced S. 1925 to reauthorize this critical piece of legislation for an additional five years. It will be considered in committee on Thursday, February 2, and then by the entire Senate.
S. 1925 would improve and strengthen VAWA programs and services in some very important ways including:
- Focusing on the needs of sexual assault survivors and supporting children who have been witnesses of violence
- Strengthening housing protections for victims
- Responding to the high rate of violence against women in tribal communities, in rural areas, and supporting women with disabilities
- Consolidating existing programs to promote effectiveness and strengthening VAWA's most successful programs and services

When making the call:
- Call both of your U.S. Senators' Congressional Office through the Capitol Switchboard number
- Ask to speak with your Senator's Office
- When speaking with your Senator's office, introduce yourself as a constituent, a voter, and as a person of faith
- Request that your Senator "co-sponsor, support and fully fund the reauthorization of S. 1925, the Violence Against Women Act."
