Landmines: a continuing threat

On April 4 the United Nations will observe the 7th annual International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.  The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has a commendable record in the campaign against landmines, but the crisis is not certainly over.

Economic implications of the occupation

All living has economic implications.

At the March 23 Compassion, Peace and Justice Training Day and on March 24 at Ecumenical Advocacy Days, Mark Koenig, Director of the Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations, led a workshop that provided an introduction to the economic implications of Israel's Occupation of Palestinian territory.

10 Days of Prayer and Thanksgiving for the Roma, 2012

In 2012, Presbyterian Women will join their voices with others around the world who are concerned with justice for the Roma, who are marginalized throughout Europe.

The WCC and human rights issues in the Philippines

The World Council of Churches (WCC) Commission on World Mission and Evangelism met in Manila, the Philippines, from March 22-27. The National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP) hosted the event which focused on the theme “Together towards life: mission and evangelism in changing landscapes”. According to the WCC news story, participants analyzed a draft of the statement on mission and evangelism that will be presented at the 2103 WCC 10th Assembly in Busan, Korea.

Winding down; preparing for next year

Ecumenical Advocacy Days 2012 are coming to a close. Today, Presbyterians and sisters and brothers in Christ from other denominations are spread across Capitol Hill, urging Members of Congress to "Enact a faithful federal budget that serves the common good, provides robust funding for people struggling to overcome poverty, and exercises proper care of the earth."

Our colleagues in the Presbyterian Office of Public Witness report that over 200 Presbyterians gathered at New York Avenue Presbyterian Church on Friday, March 23 for the Compassion, Peace and Justice Training Day and nearly 200 Presbyterians took part in Ecumenical Advocacy Days.
