Take the SNAP/Food Stamp Challenge

Snap/Food Stamp Challenge logoFrom November 17-23, 2013 the PC(USA)’s denominational leaders, Stated Clerk Gradye Parsons, the Moderator Neal Presa and Presbyterian Mission Board Executive Director Linda Valentine will engage in the SNAP/Food Stamp Challenge. We invite the rest of the church to join them, either by taking the actual Challenge or by joining in solidarity through various activities, including child and adult education, outreach in communities, and prayer.

The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is observed by the United Nations on or around 29 November each year, in accordance with mandates given by the UN General Assembly in its resolutions 32/40 B of 2 December 1977, 34/65 D of 12 December 1979, and subsequent resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly on the question of Palestine.

International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is celebrated

Today, the United Nations celebrated the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.  I was struck with the importance of this day, having returned just last week from meetings with our church partners in Israel and Palestine. 

The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1977.  Today, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said, "Let us, on this International Day, reaffirm our commitment to translating ‎solidarity into positive action. The international community must help steer the situation ‎towards a historic peace agreement."

Standing in solidarity with the people of Madagascar

Presbyterians have a long history of partnership with the Church of Jesus Christ in Madagascar (FJKM). The Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations recently sponsored an event with the Rev. Hubert Rakotoarivony, International Peacemaker from Madagscar and Dan Turk, PC(USA) mission co-worker in Madagascar. They focused on the witness of the FJKM.
