The World We Want

Today, on Nelson Mandela Day, I joined our interns Grace, Marissa, Anna and Brendan at a consultation on The World We Want Platform.  “The World We Want is a platform created by the United Nations and Civil Society to amplify people’s voices in the process of building a global agenda for sustainable development.”

Interim Report of the Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief

Today, the Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief, Heiner Bielefeldt issued his interim report to the United Nations General Assembly.  

The report includes the activities of the Special Rapporteur, the role of the State in promoting interreligious communication and conclusions and recommendations from the Special Rapporteur.

The Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations has been engaged in protecting religious freedoms within the United Nations community.

A prayer on a day of grief

Famine stalks the Horn of Africa.
A bomb and gunfire rip Norway.
Violence wracks Malawi and Syria.
Rapes are perpetrated in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Atrocities are suspected in Southern Kordofan.
Human rights are denied in Madagascar, Peru, and Colombia.

Weak and vulnerable people are exploited and abused in the United States.

In places and situations that fail to make the headlines,
people are violated; God's creation is abused.
