Revising the Directory for Worship

The 221st General Assembly (2014) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has called for a year-long period of study and comment on a proposed revision to the Directory for Worship, the part of the Book of Order that describes the theology and practice of our liturgical life. The time frame for this season of study is July 1, 2014, to July 1, 2015.

The full text of the proposed revision is available online at pcusa.org/dfw; use the right-hand menu to navigate the text online. At that site you'll also find helpful background information, including: a basic introduction to the Directory for Worship, a brief history, the principles that guided this revision, resources for study, and instructions on how to comment on the proposed revision. Under resources for study you'll see the full text available to download in English, Korean, and Spanish, as well as a side-by-side comparison of the outline of the current Directory for Worship and the proposed revision.

Comments on the proposed revision should be sent to worship@pcusa.org. In order to receive consideration in further revisions, all comments must be received in writing at this address.

After July 1, 2015, the PC(USA) Office of Theology and Worship will compile and review all the comments we have received. In the fall of 2015, a consultation of pastors, professors, and mid-council leaders will consider this feedback and suggest further revisions. With the approval of the Presbyterian Mission Agency Board, this subsequent revision will be sent to the 222nd General Assembly (2016) for consideration to include in the PC(USA) Book of Order.
