Though children make up nearly half of the human family, less than fifteen percent of all the money given to missions is spent on children. Children need us to open our pocketbooks along with our hearts so that they may grow and develop as God intends. Your donations to any of these funds will help contribute to the health and wellness of children.

Decade of the Child

This fund facilitates work related to the Decade of the Child emphasis authorized by the 213th General Assembly for the years 2001-2011. The Decade of the Child challenges PC(USA) congregations to continue to be engaged in ministries and initiatives that benefit children.

International Child Health

No group in the world is more vulnerable than children. Each day thousands die because of inadequate medical care, food and shelter. The Worldwide Ministries Division works with partner churches in poverty-stricken countries to support their efforts to rescue children from premature death, illness and the conditions that prevent them from growing into physically and mentally healthy adults. Your gifts will help fund a range of projects, including immunization, nutritional rehabilitation and support for children whose families are in crisis.

AIDS Crisis Overseas

Gifts support a range of church and community-based projects, including prevention education, home-based care for people suffering with AIDS, spiritual and emotional care of persons living with HIV and training of pastors.

NetWorkers Malaria Prevention Program

NetWorkers projects in malaria-stricken nations provide mosquito nets and prevention education to protect families from malaria, the disease that is the leading cause of death among young children and a serious health threat to pregnant women.

AIDS Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Africa

Contributions help support community-based orphan care programs, providing basic needs including food, clothing, education and medical care. Funds also support training caregivers.

Mother-to-Child Transmission Prevention (AIDS)

Over 90 percent of HIV infections in children are from mother-to-child transmission (MTCT). African churches provide health care and create programs to prevent MTCT. Funds for church women's programs to support mothers, voluntary counseling and testing programs as well as drug therapy will begin to reduce the MTCT and save the babies.

International Community Training in Health

Eighty percent of cases treated in overseas hospitals today could have been prevented if community health workers were properly trained and informed of basic health, nutrition, vaccination and sanitation techniques. With your support, health workers can be sufficiently trained to raise the health status of people in developing countries.

Health and Wholeness for Youth

Today's youth face unprecedented external pressures, dilemmas and complex internal questions. The search for health and wholeness impacts young lives in many ways. Gifts for the category will enable the creation of resources grounded in reformed theology and helpful to youth in decision-making, positive self-image, resisting peer pressure and identity formation. They will have a component for pastors and for the young people they seek to counsel.

Youth and HIV/AIDS

Of all new HIV infections in the United States, 25 percent are found in adolescents between the ages of 13 and 20. Two Americans under the age of 20 become infected with HIV every hour of every day. It is therefore imperative that our youth receive correct information about HIV/AIDS. This program provides information about AIDS prevention, equips youth with coping skills to deal with issues of death and bereavement and introduces theological reflections on how to treat people living with AIDS. Your gift will supply funding for HIV/AIDS resources and training for youth in workshops, Sunday school classes, youth groups and conferences.
