| Introduction
to the Presbyterian Student Advocacy and Leadership Team
The Presbyterian Student Advocacy and Leadership Team (PSALT) is a group of
students chosen to represent zeal and enthusiasm about the mission
of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in higher education ministry.
The Advocacy and Leadership Team seeks to represent the racial, ethnic and
gender diversity of young adults in the Church. The team, in
conjunction with several senior friends, touches the lives of
college students. The objectives of the team are determined
by the current needs of students within the Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.).
PSALT meets biannually to address the issues affecting students.
It works within the Presbyterian Collegiate Connection (PCC),
which is a network of people, events and ideas that are a part
of the denomination's campus ministry mission. The Team aims
to promote PCC through three major events. The first is the
Presbyterian Student Forum, which is an opportunity for students
to gather each summer to share their campus ministry experiences
and discuss how to improve opportunities for students to grow
in their faith and commitment to Christ.
The second event, the National Leadership Conference, occurs
every four years and is a joint effort with the national student
leadership team of the United Church of Christ and Christian
Church (Disciples of Christ). PSALT also helps plan the quadrennial,
ecumenical Celebrate! conference. Student Advocacy and Leadership Team members
serve as liaisons to several other national student leadership
teams and their particular events. For example, the Celebrate!
planning team is composed of two PSALT members as well as two
representatives from all other major denominations.
The primary focus of the Presbyterian Student Advocacy and Leadership Team
is to enhance unity within Christ's church through the ministry
to, with, by and for college students by the Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.). The team strives to develop lines of communication
by building networks of support among synods, presbyteries,
congregations, and campuses. PSALT aims to serve students and
those working with students, providing resources and opportunities
so they are enabled to best serve God.
