“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

Communicators called to witness

As communicators, it’s our role to tell of the church’s presence in our world today. We have a bigger purpose than to just write a story, or create a Web site or post a blog. It’s our call to witness (with our communication tools) about where Christ is alive, and where the church and God are working in the world. We invite you to come and be renewed to the spirit of Christ, connect with other church members serving in similar roles, and learn new and better ways to communicate God’s presence in our lives.

The Art of The Book: TV special explores biblical art

Various religious movements and cultures have used images to educate, entertain and inspire for centuries.

A new television special — The Art of The Book — analyzes the relationship between biblical stories, rituals and art. Viewers will get to see rarely viewed manuscripts and objects, including some from the Museum of Biblical Arts in Manhattan, the Morgan Library and Museum and the Jewish Theological Seminary.

The special is presented by the Interfaith Broadcasting Commission and was produced in cooperation with the National Council of Churches, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Islamic Society of North America, the Union for Reformed Judaism and the New York Board of Rabbis.

The documentary will be broadcast on CBS Television on several dates in December, starting December 6. See the online schedule for specific times and dates in your area.

PC(USA) Young Adult Volunteer appears on CNN

A national television audience learned this week what many of us have known for a long time — our Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) program changes lives. One of our recently returned YAVs, Shelvis Smith-Mather, shared his inspiring story during a CNN interview Sunday morning (watch it here). He told CNN that his faith was strengthened by seeing the African church at work in the face of poverty, conflict and other pressing problems. “It’s important to know that in the midst of the tragedy there’s a whole lot of hope,” he said. “There are a number people who are doing amazing works for God there and engaging in these issues, and that’s encouraging.” Keep reading.
