The pre-conference multicultural presbytery team training will provide presbytery leadership an excellent opportunity to expand vision for and deepen commitment to multicultural ministry. Training begins with breakfast at 8:00 a.m. and the program starts at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 30, and concludes at noon on Friday, August 31.
As a sequel to the last two years' well-attended presbytery team training in New York and Orlando, an advanced track will be added, designed to encourage deeper interaction among teams with significant multicultural ministries experience. Bring case studies, policies, procedures and questions. Leadership dynamics within multicultural ministries will receive priority attention. Generational issues will also be addressed.
First time participants will review a brief history of the multicultural ministry emphasis within the PC(USA) as a framework for developing individual strategies. The curriculum will include:
- the Biblical and theological foundation for doing multicultural ministry,
- models of multicultural ministry,
- the principles underlying cultural proficiency,
- key entry points for welcoming new cultural groups into the PC(USA),
- leadership issues,
- effective community outreach strategies and
- proven approaches for transforming worship and nurturing spiritual development.
We encourage governing bodies to send teams of three to five persons, specifically including presbytery staff, presbytery committee members responsible for initiating and coordinating multicultural ministries, multicultural interns or coaches, practitioners of multicultural ministries, and individuals with a vision to be involved in the cutting edge of ministry within the PC(USA). Participating teams will be encouraged to develop networks in order to sustain mutual support and share experiences and information.
Please note that a minimal fee of $50.00 per person will be added to the normal conference registration fee for this program. This will cover breakfast, lunch and dinner for Thursday and a breakfast for Friday, speakers, and hand out materials.
Please have each person on your team check the box marked "Multicultural Presbytery Team Training Participant" on the regular conference registration form and include the additional fee of $50. Space is limited (only the first 50 participants will be confirmed), so register as early as possible.
Training leadership for this event will be provided by a the Presbyterian Multicultural Network, the Multicultural Coaching team, GA staff and seasoned practitioners of Multicultural Ministries. This team will represent various principles and approaches of multiculturalism within the Church. |
