The church is a critical resource because of its mission: to reintroduce the perspective of God’s kingdom into our lives. The Presbyterian congregation is a more than suitable place to discuss — “under God” — the relative merits and personal qualities of Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain. Most congregations are not politically homogenous and are more valuable because of it.
Read the October 2008 featured cover story of Presbyterians Today to learn how congregations can serve as political schools — places to become current on public issues. Examine how both Presidential candidates speak of their own faith and the faith of others and how this relates their readiness to lead the nation.
Take note
When we baptize an infant, child, teen or adult, we affirm God’s gracious gift of love with the sign of the cross and the seal of water, blessed by the Holy Spirit. Learn why Presbyterians baptize children in a cover story from the winter issue of ideas! For Church Leaders.
Each week the Peacemaking Program posts prayers for situations in need of peace and justice on Spiritual Nurture for Peacemakers. The prayers can help deepen the spiritual life of individuals and help congregations provide worship experiences that respond to Christ’s call to live as peacemakers.
