In addition, we plan to do at least one of the following:
- Educate! We will engage members of our congregation
in energy conservation and renewable energy by making climate
care or energy stewardship the focus of a worship service,
using bulletin inserts or newsletter announcements provided
by OIPL, or scheduling an OIPL presentation for members of
our congregation.
- Organize! We will create a congregational energy
team to determine how our building(s) can be more energy efficient,
to provide on-going oversight of energy conservation measures,
and/or to educate our members about energy conservation.
- Take conservation action! We will take at least two
of the following conservation steps to reduce our congregation's
energy use:
- arrange a free energy audit by the utility company that
provides our heating
- have a free lighting audit conducted by our utility or energy
service provider
- replace incandescent bulbs in frequently-used areas with
compact fluorescent bulbs
- replace incandescent bulbs in exit signs with light-emitting
diodes (LEDs)
- turn our hot water heater down to 120 degrees
- lower our thermostat setting in winter
- weatherize our doors and windows
