A Community-based, Online Lenten Series
Through this Lenten series, Presbyterians across the country will have the opportunity to read and reflect on God’s Word together with Presbyterian farmworkers in Immokalee, Fla. Each week a theme, scripture passage and set of questions are available online for reflection. The materials have been prepared by the The Rev. Miguel Fernando Estrada Salvador, Pastor of Misión Peniel, a Reformed spiritual mission with farmworkers in Immokalee, Fla. At the end of each week, insights and questions from the discussions held at Misión Peniel will be posted to the website. People of faith are invited to consider what the farmworkers have said in light of their own discussions and email their responses so that they can be shared in Immokalee. [Read more] |

Peacemaking Conference, July 15-19, 2008
Join us at the Peacemaking Conference in Orange, CA for great educational sessions, dialogue with other committed Presbyterians and inspiring worship. All educational sessions are designed so that they can be “taken home” and replicated in your local congregation. The Rev. Noelle Damico, National Coordinator of the Campaign for Fair Food, will be leading a three-day workshop called “Human Rights and Fair Food.” We’ll explore the biblical, theological and ecclesial commitments of the PC(USA) that have formed our partnership with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers to improve human rights in the fields and our engagement of the fast-food and grocery industries, the reality and causes of human trafficking and modern-day slavery and ways in which Presbyterians can become involved in this bourgeoning social movement for a way of doing business that ensures human rights. Brief on the Campaign for Fair Food
The Campaign for Fair Food is an ongoing effort of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), in partnership with farmworkers from the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW), to establish purchasing practices within the retail food industry that ensure and advance fair wages and other human rights of tomato pickers who labor at the base of these corporate supply chains.
