The 216th General Assembly voted Friday to
retain an "authoritative interpretation" forbidding the ordination
of gays and lesbians in the church. The Assembly also approved
measures opposing the Israeli occupation of Palestine, and initiated
actions to support a selective divestment of holdings in multinational
corporations doing business in Israel/Palestine. [View

General Assemblies. The Committee on Health Issues made their
recommendations during the Thursday morning Business Session.

Wednesday was full of activity that included
the ecumenical worship service (featuring a sermon by Bishop
Thomas Hoyt, Jr., the One Voice Choir and the Richmond's Boys
Choir), afternoon business sessions and a special award ceremony
honoring Henry Luce III.

day early Monday at the GA Breakfast, but ended up spending long
hours in committee meetings, informational gatherings, and worship.[View

Millard Fuller, founder and president of Habitat for
Humanity International, was the speaker for the annual GA breakfast.
In a stirring address, Fuller challenged Presbyterians to do
more for those less fortunate: "But crumb-giving doesn't do
it..."

space when approximately eight thousand people gathered for worship

Sunday afternoon at the assembly was a time for
commissioners, advisory delegates and others to greet the newly
elected moderator, Rick Ufford-Chase. The moderator, along with
his wife of 12 years, Kitty Ufford, received the well wishes of
hundreds of people who were entertained by the Joe Sarver Trio.
