  RICHMOND, June 29 - The Committee on International Issues voted to recommend that the Assembly:

  • Affirm Taiwan's right to self-determination while honoring the PC(USA)'s partnerships with both the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church and the Chinese Christian Council, an umbrella group of churches in mainland China;

  • Promote seven extra commitment opportunities to raise money for the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS in Africa;

  • Have the stated clerk express concern to Mexico's president and Chihuahua's governor about more than 350 killings of young women in the Juarez area in the past 11 years and encourage the denomination's ecumenical partners to do the same. The PC(USA) is involved in the area through the Presbyterian Border Ministry.

  The International Issues Committee
The International Issues Committee considered proposed funding for AIDS prevention and treatment in Africa, an expression of solidarity with the people of Taiwan, a call for global population control, and expressions of concern for human rights in many nations.
