Moderator of the General Assembly — the Rev.
Susan R. Andrews: The moderator of the General Assembly
is elected each year at the beginning of the meeting of the
General Assembly from among the commissioners (elected delegates).
The moderator presides over the meeting of the General Assembly
and then serves as the chief spokesperson and goodwill ambassador
of the denomination until the following year’s General
Assembly. The General Assembly moderator is not paid and is
not considered General Assembly staff. Susan R. Andrews is pastor
of Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, MD.
Stated Clerk of the General Assembly — the Rev.
Clifton Kirkpatrick: The stated clerk is the chief
ecclesiastical officer of the General Assembly, responsible
for the meetings of the General Assembly, church records and
statistics, the church courts and constitutional interpretation,
the Department of History and ecclesiastical relations with
other churches and ecumenical organizations. The stated clerk
is a paid member of the General Assembly staff and is elected
to a four-year term by the General Assembly. The Rev. Clifton
Kirkpatrick was elected to the office in 1996, reelected in
2000 and is a candidate for reelection to a third term at this
General Assembly. He previously served for 15 years as head

Executive Director of the General Assembly Council
— Elder John Detterick: The executive director
of the General Assembly Council (GAC) — the elected body
that administers the programs of the General Assembly between
meetings of the assembly — is the chief executive officer
of the General Assembly responsible for overseeing the mission
program of the General Assembly (625 employees and an annual
budget of approximately $130 million). The executive director
is a paid member of the General Assembly staff and is elected
by the GAC and confirmed by the General Assembly to a four-year
term. John Detterick was elected to the office in 1998, after
serving five years as head of the denomination’s Board
of Pensions, and was reelected to a second four-year term in

Director of Congregational Ministries — the Rev.
Donald G. Campbell: the Congregational
Ministries Division of the GAC is responsible for programmatic
ministries in Christian Education, Curriculum Publishing, Christian
Faith and Life, and Stewardship. The director is a paid member
of the General Assembly staff and is elected by the GAC and
confirmed by the General Assembly to a four-year term. The Rev.
Donald G. Campbell was elected to the office in 1999 and was
reelected to a second four-year term in January 2003. Office

Director of National Ministries — the Rev. Curtis
A. Kearns Jr.: the National Ministries
Division of the GAC is responsible for programmatic ministries
in Churchwide Personnel Services, Higher Education, Evangelism
and Church Development, Racial Ethnic Ministries, Social Justice,
Women’s Ministries and the Presbyterian Washington Office.
The director is a paid member of the General Assembly staff
and is elected by the GAC and confirmed by the General Assembly
to a four-year term. The Rev. Curtis A. Kearns Jr. was elected
to the office in 1994 and was reelected in 1998 and 2002. Office

Director of Worldwide Ministries — the Rev. Marian
McClure: the Worldwide Ministries Division
of the GAC is responsible for programmatic ministries in Ecumenical
Partnership, Global Service and Witness, and People in Mutual
Mission. The director is a paid member of the General Assembly
staff and is elected by the GAC and confirmed by the General
Assembly council to a four-year term. The Rev. Marian McClure
was elected to the office in 1997 and was reelected in 2001.
