Cumberland Presbyterians wear many-colored tags

BIRMINGHAM, June 18 — How can you tell Cumberland Presbyterians from Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)ers or  Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America folks? By the color of their nametags.

Cumberland Presbyterians are wearing many colors of nametags and each carries the symbol of the office of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church General Assembly. Denominational executives have orange tags. Clergy commissioners are wearing buff tags and elder commissioners are sporting green ones. Young adult delegates have blue nametags and denominational board representatives have yellow. If you see a few bright green tags, you will know these are reporters for The Cumberland Presbyterian magazine.

All of these colors will be seen at one time in one place when the Cumberland Presbyterian Church Assembly convenes today at 2:00 p.m. in East Ballroom B for worship with the Rev. Dr. Carver Yu (Hong Kong Presbytery), preaching the sermon.

Following the worship service, the 176th General Assembly will convene and a moderator will be elected. Only one person has been endorsed, though it is possible that someone could be nominated from the floor. East Tennessee Presbytery endorsed the Rev. Donald Hubbard, of Knoxville, TN. His roots in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church date back to the 1800s. Don attended Bethel College, The University of Tennessee, and Cumberland Presbyterian Seminary. Having served in the pastorate for 48 years, Don retired but continues to be active in ministry.
