‘Pray until something happens’

Elder Robert Wilson confirmed as Vice-Moderator of 217th PC(USA) General Assembly

BIRMINGHAM, June 19 — Elder Robert Wilson from Presbytery of North Alabama, a member of Fellowship Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, AL, was confirmed unanimously Monday morning as the Vice Moderator of the 217th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). He will serve a two-year term with the 217th GA Moderator Joan Gray.

During his nomination speech, Wilson declared, "This Assembly needs to P.U.S.H: Pray Until Something Happens."

Echoing Gray's theme — "God will make a way where there is no way" — Wilson urged, "Let God order our steps. … Stop talking about and be about. … Learn to let go, and then let go."

Wilson also encouraged commissioners to adopt "a get-right attitude with God, a get-right attitude with Jesus, and a get-right attitude with the Holy Spirit." He further anticipated that "there will emerge heroes from this Assembly who will assist the church with this get-right attitude."

Anticipating their two-year term together, Gray stated, "The vice moderator has an important role not only in helping to moderate these proceedings, but over the next two years Robert and I will be working in partnership."

Wilson, a retired mechanical engineer, noted that his three priorities in retirement are to "work for the Lord, do other volunteer work and spoil my grandchildren."

Wilson has served the church as elder and deacon in churches in New Jersey, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky and now Alabama. He is a former president of the National Council of Presbyterian Men, and has been honored as the Church Man of the Year in North Alabama Presbytery.
