Other declared candidates for Stated Clerk announced

LOUISVILLE, May 8, 2008 – The Stated Clerk Nomination Committee announced today that three applicants, the Reverend Winfield Jones, the Reverend Edward Koster and the Reverend Dr. William Tarbell have declared to the committee that each intends to stand for Stated Clerk of the General Assembly against the committee’s nominee, the Reverend Gradye Parsons.

LOUISVILLE, April 3, 2008 – The Rev. Gradye Parsons has been selected by the Stated Clerk Nomination Committee as its nominee for Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

“Guided by a strong faith in Jesus Christ and a deep love of the church in general and the PC(USA) in particular, Gradye Parsons brings a wonderful blend of experiences and creative leadership to successfully fill the position of Stated Clerk,” said Steve Grace, an elder, member of the Committee on the Office of the General Assembly and chairperson of the nomination committee. What is the Stated Clerk Nomination Committee?

The Stated Clerk Nomination Committee is elected by the General Assembly that meets prior to the end of the term of a Stated Clerk of the General Assembly.

The current SCNC was elected by the 217th General Assembly (2006) and is responsible for the following:

  • Receiving applications for the position of Stated Clerk of the General Assembly up to 180 days before the opening of the 218th General Assembly (GA), which is June 21-28, 2008, in San Jose, California.
  • Reviewing the applicants and their qualifications.
  • Declaring its nominee no later than 60 days before the opening of the 218th GA.
