The Dalit International Newsletter is being published at the request of Dalit friends in India. Dalit means downtrodden and oppressed. It is the name used by India's untouchable castes for themselves. Almost 20 percent of India's population and over half of all the Christians in India are Dalits. They have sought a means by which to tell the international community of their plight and struggle. The Newsletter is published three times a year. |
