Cairo Evangelical Medical Center
Egypt
Cairo Evangelical Medical Center is a 43 bed medical center, providing the curative and preventive medical services to the clergy and members of the churches in Egypt as well as the Egyptian community regardless of race or religion. Owned by the Synod of the Nile, the Center is located on the 'Ezbakeya site', a very densely populated residential area in the center of Cairo, Egypt. It serves a population of 1.5 million people. The Medical Center has expanded to 11 floors. In 1998, the hospital hopes to complete the third and fourth floor maternity and cardiac care units (21 beds). The Medical Center's Director is Prof. Dr. Fouad Bekheit.
Increasing the accessibility of Christ centered medical care which is high quality yet low cost, remains a constant goal of the Medical Center. At present, care is given free of charge if necessary. Other ongoing and future goals include: connecting a family doctor to specific families toward the promotion of primary health care; providing training and postgraduate research opportunities to medical graduates and nurses; promotion of the exchange of medical knowledge, skills and services between local physicians and Egyptian ones practicing in the USA and Europe; establishment of a treatment for drug addiction.
The Medical Benevolence Foundation raises funds for the Evangelical Medical Center.
