Covenant Hospital is a modern, 22-bed facility located in the village of Mombin Crochu on Haiti's northern mountain plateau. The picturesque, remote area is home to 30,000 people, most of whom are unemployed and poor. The hospital's original building, constructed in 1981 as a government clinic, but never used as such, was renovated and expanded in the mid-90's by the Medical Benevolence Foundation and began operating as Covenant Hospital through a partnership of the Episcopal Church of Haiti and PC(USA). Covenant Hospital now includes a primary care facility with an operating suite, a spacious guesthouse for the use of frequently visiting medical mission teams, and staff quarters.

Covenant Hospital provides diagnostic and curative services to pediatric and adult in-patients and out-patients, as well as emergency and primary level trauma care for the region. Pre-natal and routine obstetrical care are also available. Preventive care and health education services in nutrition, pre-natal health, immunizations, family planning, HIV/AIDS and hygiene are offered throughout the rural Mombin Crochu area. The hospital staff is often augmented by visiting medical specialists, providing the capability and equipment to provide more advanced procedures.

Health services, administration and community relations have been strengthened by PC(USA) missionary personnel at Covenant Hospital, most recently Medical Director Dr. Paul McLain and his wife Joan. Recognizing that the foundation for health and healing is adequate nutrition, and seeing that many patients' families were too poor to provide adequate meals to their hospitalized loved ones (as is the traditional practice in Haiti) Dr. McLain and the Covenant staff started the "Food for Healing" program. "Food for Healing" provides two nutritious meals each day to each patient during convalescence. This restorative program has shown positive results.

Assistance to the mission of Covenant Hospital is provided through ECO Account #040636, and by the Medical Benevolence Foundation. Designated gifts may be made to the ECO account for the "Food for Healing" program.
