Healthy Steps
A Simple Program for Healthier Living ®
Healthy
Steps is a program
and workbook designed
by National Health Ministries to provide information about healthy
living. Healthy Steps can assist you in deciding upon lifestyle
practices you might change or show you new practices you might
wish to adopt and help you create an action plan to achieve your
goals.
Lifestyle practices play a major role
in the prevention or management of many of the health problems
people experience. Lifestyle practices affect cardiovascular
disease, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, lung cancer, cirrhosis
of the liver and high levels of blood cholesterol. With changes
in activity levels, eating habits and stress levels, a person
can greatly reduce her/his risk of developing certain health
problems and increase her/his quality of life.
- Section 1 includes an opportunity to record your results from
the Health Ministries' Health Risk Assessment (or any other
HRA), recommendations for lifestyle practices that you want
to adopt, and steps in developing an action plan.
- Sections 2-4 cover the major lifestyle
issues the majority of Presbyterians experience (this
is based on health risk assessments conducted over the
last two years) and are common to the majority of disease
processes, physical activity, nutrition, and stress management.
These sections cover an extensive process of evaluating one's
behavior in order to change lifestyle practices, and provide
additional helpful resources. A list of appendices refers
to each respective topic.
- Section 5 covers smoking cessation.
- Section
6 contains information on diabetes and a chart of
medical tests.
- Section 7 contains appendices with detailed
information on activity/exercise, nutrition and seat belt
use information.
This is your health workbook developed as a personal resource
and record. Feel free to mark in it and use it over again as
you continue to make changes in your lifestyle practices.
