Here and Now

The church has no role in public culture unless it is present in the media. To be without a media presence is to be voiceless and powerless in a post-modern culture.  —Leonard Sweet

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is seeing a rebirth of energy and enthusiasm directed at efforts around evangelism. There are many ways individual congregations can do evangelism — outreach programs, canvassing their neighborhood, inviting friends and neighbors to attend a service.  Another option for local churches and presbyteries is to use the Here and Now awareness campaign.

This campaign, complete with TV, radio and print messages, allows you to get your message into the main stream media — a critical component to evangelism in this Web 2.0 world.  It allows people to receive your message at a place where they are in the normal routine of their day.  The radio spot plays as they’re driving home from work, they see the TV message while enjoying their morning coffee, and come across the print message while checking out the community board at the local grocery.

This campaign is available in a variety of kits and can be used “out of the box” or customized with your church or presbytery’s information. The package also allows you to use individual design elements to create other awareness tools such as bumperstickers, postcards, door hangers, magnets and more.

Messages to reach youth and young adults

The purpose of the Here and Now campaign is to give churches and congregations resources that they can place in their local media to increase the awareness of their presence in the community.

Customize the messages

All of the Here and Now messages can be used “out of the box” or customized for your individual church.

When you place the messages with a TV station they will be able to add a visual and audio tag at the end. The standard practice is that there is no fee for this service. Make sure they do not tag your  “master copy”.  Instead, have them make a copy of the master, then customize the copy. The radio messages can have an audio tag added in the same manner.

The print messages come on a data CD and are compatible for both MAC and PC. The data CD contains all the final ads in PDF form.  These can be used “as is.”  In addition, all of the individual elements that were used to create each message are on the CD. This allows you to recreate the ad so that it can be customized.  This also allows you to use the elements to create bulletin inserts, postcards and door hangers or to use on your web site or in your newsletter or anyplace else your imagination leads you.

In order to use the print material you will need the full complement of  Quark 7.2.  If you do not have this software some options are to check with some of your members that are graphic designers, to locate a graphics design business in your community and to contact Mindy Marchal, who will arrange for a national staff designer to create the piece for you.
