About This Issue Presbyterians have a long and proud tradition of establishing schools across the United States, planting the seeds of what is now known as Sunday school and emphasizing equal education for all people. So, it was no great challenge to fill an “education issue” of Horizons. What can be a challenge, however, is helping people of this or any denomination or religion view education from a fresh perspective. Race divides in our public schools remain a seemingly unsolvable problem. Too many church education programs continue to rely on reading, writing, speaking and logical reasoning, ignoring so many other approaches to teaching. Many parts of the world beyond the United States still consider education optional or unnecessary for girls and women. These are the aspects of education that Presbyterian Women is eager to explore, ready to think outside the box and establish new traditions of which we can be proud.. —Editor |
