About This Issue
This Far by Faith: 20 Years of PW Purpose

Anniversaries evoke lots of memories, laughter and tears, don’t they? This issue celebrates two decades of living together as one Presbyterian Women family and, incidentally, of Horizons magazine and Bible study. Older PW family members among us will recognize half-forgotten faces—pioneers who led us faithfully into God’s future. Younger PW family members will learn something about our roots—how we have come this far by faith, as women engaged in mission and service in northern and southern Presbyterian churches, long before Reunion was a gleam in General Assembly’s eye! A mood of celebration runs through every article. We have done a lot and come a long way since 1988. What does our future hold? Only God knows; but as we look back over the many blessings of the past 20 years, we face the future with hope.

How to Use This Magazine

Horizons is the magazine of Presbyterian Women. It is planned and designed for individuals and PW circles, newcomers and longtime participants in the organization. You'll notice resources are scattered throughout the magazine—in sidebars, boxes and sometimes entire articles—because Presbyterian Women is made up of leaders, both current leaders and women with leadership potential. Participants in Presbyterian Women are also active—in their congregation, community and world—so we work to include ways you can respond to what you read in Horizons.

The purpose of Horizons magazine is the same as the purpose of our publisher, Presbyterian Women:

Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit we commit ourselves:

  • to nurture our faith through prayer and
    Bible study
  • to support the mission of the church worldwide
  • to work for justice and peace
  • to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom
