![]() The Things We've Handed Down A colleague’s recent retirement dinner was full of humorous recollections, jibes and thanksgiving for this person’s gifts. When it was my turn, however, I had to take a deep breath. After echoing others’ gratitude, I thanked him for not allowing an early encounter, a very uncomfortable occasion, to color our subsequent relationship.
