by Steve Shussett The admonition to avoid discussion of religion and politics has long been one of the crown jewels of dining etiquette. Even now, in interviewing for a job, these are considered too sensitive to broach. Ironically, among some constituencies, a politician seeking office—who is in effect, interviewing for a government job—is suspect when discussing religion too little, while others are thought to be “putting on a show” when they discuss religion too much.
