Hunger Action Enabler honored

Sandy Champion, our new Hunger Action Enabler in the National Capitol Presbytery, was honored at the Washington National Cathedral during the June 2007 Interfaith Hunger Convocation celebrated by thousands of people.
"Good Evening. My name is Sandy Champion, and I am a lay member of Saint Mark Presbyterian Church in Rockville, Md., where I have worked as a social justice educator and advocacy organizer for the last six years. I helped Saint Mark become a Bread for the World covenant church. Last August I was called and commissioned to serve as the Hunger Action Enabler for the regional governing body of my church. As such, I visit local Presbyterian churches to teach, provide resources and inspire advocacy, simple living and other anti-hunger activities. This is my third Bread for the World Gathering and, as in the past, it has filled me with new ideas and energy for my social justice work. I therefore commit myself to the following actions: first, daily intentional disciplines of concerted anti-hunger actions; and second, I further commit myself to teach and inspire members of the churches I visit to do likewise.
As a way to show your commitment to ending hunger, will all those here this evening who are local or regional church workers or anti-hunger workers please stand and make your voices heard …"
Show your commitment to end hunger through your prayers, your actions and your generosity. |
