The term Hunger Action Enabler (HAE) was coined by the Presbyterian Church in the U.S. in 1973 when the Women's Birthday Offering established a network of 14 Hunger Action Enablers to serve the synods and the General Assembly's Task Force on world Hunger. When the United Presbyterian Hunger Program was initiated in 1975, the General Assembly encouraged presbyteries to establish hunger task forces and/or Hunger Action Enabler positions. Unique among the denominations, the Presbyterian Hunger Action Enabler position became a model for the ecumenical WHEAT (World Hunger Education Action Together) enablers who flourished in the seventies.
Hunger Action Enablers are called to serve synods and presbyteries as educators, motivators, and facilitators of hunger action. Their goal is to enable congregations and other groups within the church to gain the knowledge and skills to sustain a long-term commitment to hunger action.

Living Wage Workshop Resources |
|
The following are resources that will enable you to lead a workshop or Bible study session on Living Wage vs. Death Wage even if you aren't an expert on the issues. The materials were updated in Jan. 2005.
Living Wage Workshop Outline
The outline suggests just one way to hold a study session. The outline is intended for an average group (whatever that is). With a group that knows the issues and wants to educate others, you can frame the workshop into one that gives them the tools to hold their own workshops. Some groups may be most interested in acting and you can go quickly through initial steps and save time for discussion about avenues for action.
Living Wage and Hunger
This is the main powerpoint for your presentation. You can show this with a projector, print the slides up as hand-outs, make color transparencies for an overhead, or view them on the computer with a small group. |
