Presbyterians
have been giving to some kind of offering at Christmas for almost
70 years. According to the Presbyterian Panel* report issued
in fall 2003, 80 percent of pastors said their church received
this special offering the previous year. As we celebrate the
unity of God’s family through Jesus Christ, we remember
and celebrate persons in our community of faith in a tangible
way. Whether helping youth obtain an education or meeting the
needs of both active and retired servants of the Church, we
give to the Christmas Joy Offering in thanksgiving and hope.
Most churches that receive the Christmas
Joy Offering do so on the fourth Sunday in Advent. If your
congregation is not currently receiving this special church-wide
offering, please ask your pastor and the session to consider
becoming a Five for Five
church. |
