The Bible—The Story of God’s Faithfulness: A Survey of the Old Testament, ith All Boldness and Freedom: A Survey of the New Testament   Preparing the Way

Winter and Advent are coming! It’s time to start planning and preparing for the Incarnation, the birth of Jesus Christ! So why talk now about the Old Testament?

In Jesus’ birth, we see the fulfillment of the promise made by God in Hebrew Scripture. The Christmas session in The Bible—The Story of God’s Faithfulness: A Survey of the Old Testament focuses on the birth of a king for the Jews and the Messiah, for whom the Jews were waiting. Students read the prophecies of Isaiah and come up with a description of the long-awaited king. They then look at Luke’s account of the birth of Jesus to see how Jesus’ birth shows God’s faithfulness in keeping God’s promises.

The Bible—The Story of God’s Faithfulness is one of the four survey courses provided for younger youth in the denominational curriculum We Believe: God’s Word for God’s People. Like With All Boldness and Freedom: A Survey of the New Testament, which was updated in 2004, this has been revised to match the style of other We Believe curricula.

In The Bible—The Story of God’s Faithfulness, students study the Hebrew Scriptures from Genesis to Malachi. The revisions include a Background for Teachers section for each session, a comprehensive You Will Need list at the beginning of each session, additional activities and instructions, all found in the Teacher’s Book. The Teacher’s Book also includes resources for a Bible quiz and the Joseph Game, a fun way to learn and remember the story of Joseph.

A separate Student’s Notebook has also been added to both survey courses. It includes resource pages for the students to use in each session and can be photocopied in lieu of purchasing additional copies.

A special Easter session is also included to help students learn how the resurrection of Christ is another example of God’s faithfulness. Help your students see how the Hebrew Scriptures connect to the story of Jesus’ birth, life, death, and resurrection. They will also learn how God continues to be faithful in the story of the church today and in their own lives.
