  Welcome Aboard the VBS Express

Welcome to vacation Bible school planning 2007. Allow me to introduce our Congregational Ministries Publishing offerings. You will find some old friends and a new acquaintance, each one an opportunity for a faithful and rewarding week of VBS.

First, let us introduce the new acquaintance: Great Bible Reef, the first offering in a new partnership between Augsburg Fortress publishers and Congregational Ministries Publishing. Great Bible Reef is Bible story-based and uses an interactive combination of music, art, snacks, games, worship, drama, and science activities to teach children faith basics. The Starter Kit, Director Guide, and Director Guide CD-Rom have been reviewed with an eye toward essential aspects of Reformed identity and are all PC(USA)-specific publications.

These old friends are still available: Around the World in 5 Days: God Calls Us; Around the World in 5 Days: Living As Forgiven Children of God; and Around the World in 5 Days: A Visit to the U.S.A. are PC(USA) mission-based VBS experiences that introduce children to PC(USA) mission around the world. Through the use of Bible study, music, crafts, games, and snack stations, children learn something about what it’s like to live in another country or another part of the United States. They hear stories about the lives of mission workers and consider God’s call for their own lives.

Around the World in 5 Days: God Calls Us uses an airplane motif to take children to the Philippines, Guatemala, Malawi, Pakistan, and Peru.
Around the World in 5 Days: Living As Forgiven Children of God uses a train motif to take children to Taiwan, Northern Ireland, Brazil, Zimbabwe, and Nepal.

Around the World in 5 Days: A Visit to the U.S.A. uses a boat motif to take children around the United States to Pasadena Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, California; to Cedarkirk, a Presbyterian camp of the Tampa Bay and Peace River presbyteries of Florida; to the Presbytery of the Yukon in Alaska; to Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Kentucky; and to the Midwest Hamni Presbytery of Chicago, where they consider what it means to be mission-minded children of God.
Dive into a great week of vacation Bible school 2007!
