What does it mean to you to live the Christian life faithfully? And how can you help another to do so? Our Presbyterian seminaries take both of these questions seriously. The second question, however, is one that plays to their particular strengths. As theological and biblical centers for study and preparation for ministry, year after year and day after day they each empower our church to serve and glorify God. They teach and form not only those preparing for church vocations such as ministers of Word and Sacrament, Christian education directors, and other preachers and teachers, but also the whole people of God. This includes elders and deacons, congregational teachers and students, commissioned lay pastors, and those investigating such a calling; even those on the margins of the church who are seeking understanding in faith and hope . . . all are shaped and formed, nourished and equipped, when they step into the life and educational ministry of one or more of our seminaries.
At our seminaries one will find opportunities to investigate topics of growing interest like spiritual formation, sabbath practice, family ministry, emerging church, and postmodern Christianity; and to delve into basics like Bible study, prayer, world mission, worship, and teacher training. Lectures and series on Horizons Bible studies, small church vitality, and Christian leadership are also available. The variety and forms are many and, more often than not, open to all interested persons.
Imagine the transformation of your life and ministry when you commit to lifelong theological education. Visualize being led in five days of retreat and study by
a seminary professor who is a top biblical scholar and theologian. Consider how you would be transformed by a day-long conflict prevention workshop at one of our seminaries. Think about what an archeological dig in Israel under the direction of a Presbyterian seminary might mean to your reading of the Bible. All of these and much more are available this summer and fall at our Presbyterian-related seminaries.
Visit the continuing education and/or lifelong learning Web sites from the Web address below for up-to-date information on what is available. For the sake of your own formation, for the formation of those you lead, and for the life of the church, consider registering for one event. By doing so you will experience again why Presbyterians and education are so deeply interwoven.
