Tell me the stories of Jesus ...
... I love to hear!

Smokey has the unique gift of bringing people together
to do God’s work. Herman Orr is Smokey’s owner and
a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. “We begin each day with a walk in the park,”
explains Orr. Smokey’s magnetic personality attracted
dogs and drew their owners into conversation about how
to help youth in Milwaukee. As friendships developed, this
group became a source of prayer and support.
Orr shared his vision of creating a safe house for
neighborhood youth. Through this group and church, Orr
suddenly had an architect and the base funding to get
construction underway. As the old saying goes, “You can’t
teach an old dog new tricks.” That is, except for Smokey,
who is busy connecting passionate people to do God’s
work in the Milwaukee community.
Sheela is in her second year studying business at the
Church of South India’s Ewart Women’s Christian College.
Her goal in life makes others sit up and take notice:“Preaching the name of Jesus Christ all over the world.”
Sheela is one of the 75 residential students
at Ewart College with whom missionary Anne
Dayanandan works. Sheela is a bold and gifted person,
but without the opportunity to study at Ewart College on
scholarship, she might have been working in the fields
and never have had the chance to pursue her deep calling
to be a pastor.
The Madras Diocese of the Church of South India
founded Ewart College to give women access to Christian
higher education. After decades of denial of access to
education beyond the lower grades, rural Christian young
women in Madras Diocese now have the opportunity to
earn a precious college degree.
