In his third book being published by Witherspoon Press, William
E. Chapman interprets another chapter of the Book of Order.
His latest book, with the working title Mission Symphony,
is currently in production and expected in early summer 2004,
just in time for the 215th General Assembly.
In his earlier books, the Rev. Chapman focused his attention
on historic principles of the Book of Order and their
importance and usefulness as we confront new issues of church
governance (History and Theology in the Book of Order: Blood
on Every Page Item #097450,
$19.95) and the role of Jesus Christ as the Head of the
Church (Finding Christ in the Book of Order #094077,
$11.95.)
In his latest work, Mr. Chapman explores the third chapter
of the Book of Order (G-3.0000), The Church and Its
Mission. Comparing it to Schuberts Eighth Symphony,
known as the Unfinished, the author notes that mission is what
Christians do. Mission is our response to Gods call
in Christ . . . a call that persists throughout time and so
is never complete. In his Program Notes, Mr. Chapman explains
that each of us as a believer is thus a player in this great
symphony. The audience for our symphony is an audience of one:
God. The same God is also the conductor, always working to improve
our performance.
