In a religiously plural world, what does it mean to confess
faith in the one God who is revealed to us as Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit?
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)s Office of Theology
and Worship is engaged in encouraging the whole churchcongregations,
governing bodies, ministers, and membersin the renewal
of our vocation to think, pray, and live the faith.
In 1995 the Office of Theology and Worship conducted a major
theological convocation that explored the christological affirmations
of the Nicene Creed. We Believe in One Lord Jesus Christ
brought nearly 500 persons to Pittsburgh for two days of plenary
addresses, lectures, and seminars. Four years later the office
held convocations in Charlotte and San Francisco on the third
article of the Creed, We Believe in the Holy Spirit.
The addresses and sermons from these convocations have been
published by Geneva Press under the title Fire and Wind: The
Holy Spirit in the Church Today.
To complete these explorations of the Nicene Creed, a national
convocation titled We Believe in One God will be
held in Pittsburgh April 2326, 2003. In addition to plenary
presentations on the first article of the Creed, there will
be seminars and workshops, visual and performing arts events,
Bible study, and small daily prayer groups. All of this will
be strengthened by a regular cycle of community worship with
preaching and the Eucharist.
