Presbyterian Volunteer Village operations in the gulf are undergoing some management change and transition. Penny Noel is serving as the Acting Director of the National Call Center as Russ Jackson has moved on to take the position of Business Development Director for the State of Arkansas.
Beginning Tuesday, August 8, 2006, Elizabeth Little will assume duties as the Volunteer Village Coordinator. Elizabeth has served as Village Manager at Orange Grove for the past four months and brings 13 years of work in the hospitality industry to this task. Elizabeth can be reached by sending
an email.
In September we will welcome 14 young adult volunteers to the Gulf to serve with the Presbytery of Mississippi, the Presbytery of South Louisiana, and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. These young adults will fill a number of roles ranging from church development work with the presbyteries to Presbyterian Volunteer Village management.
The continual plea from churches in the Gulf Coast is to keep sending volunteers. While the summer heat and the beginning of school have made August and the first of September slow times, the Presbyterian Volunteer Villages will be alive with volunteers again in October. There is a continued need for both skilled labor and unskilled labor, as many houses in New Orleans are still in need of mucking out. As a reminder, the number for the Call Center is 866-732-6121.
There will still be an ongoing need for Presbyterian Volunteer Village managers. Volunteers who have served this way in the past and are interested in further volunteer service in the Gulf Coast are urged to contact Elizabeth. We are always recruiting new volunteers. |
