  Situation report — August 29, 2005

Hurricane Katrina swept across southern Florida on Friday, August 27, 2005, leaving behind 14 inches of rain, downed trees and flooding throughout the area. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Team (PDAT) member Laurie Kraus, in cooperation with Tropical Florida Disaster Task Force, and Rev. Tim Stover, began contacting churches to get an assessment of damage and needs.

PDAT members Mark White and Lawrence Willis will be responding as quickly as they can arrange transportation, to provide support to congregations and carry the message of caring to churches in the area on behalf of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

As the storm begins its track across the Gulf of Mexico, PDAT members Bill Neely and Alonza Washington are preparing their second trip to the panhandle of Florida as soon as the storm passes. Both Neely and Washington responded to the Florida Presbytery in the Pensacola area following Hurricane Dennis last month.
