The Presbyterian Volunteer Village at Luling is locally known as Fish Camp. Photo by David Barnhart, PDA

Location: Luling, Louisiana, on the property of First Union Presbyterian Church, which is happy to welcome volunteers into the area.

Number of beds: 90

Needs as of April 2008: This village is primarily doing work in the city of New Orleans. The work has shifted largely away from mucking out, demolition, debris removal and roofing. While some of that is still going on, volunteers are more involved with reconstruction and repairs. Skills needed are drywalling, insulating, tile installation, painting, carpentry, electrical and plumbing.

Please note: Steel-toed boots and large vehicles are especially helpful. Minimum age for volunteers in the New Orleans area Presbyterian Volunteer Villages is 18.

Ready to Go? Teams interested in serving through any of the Presbyterian Volunteer Villages may register online or may contact Penny Noel and the volunteers at the PDA Call Center, (866) 732-6121.
