Location: Olive Tree is working in partnership with the Presbytery of South Louisiana to help in the rebuilding in New Orleans, where the needs are immense. This village opened October 1, 2007, in the former Eastminster Presbyterian Church in east New Orleans, about 30 minutes from downtown and the French Quarter. We are about a two miles south of Lake Ponchatrain and just north of the Lower Ninth Ward and St. Bernard’s Parish, two of the most devastated areas in New Orleans.
Number of Beds: 90
Needs as of April 2008: There is need for volunteers with skills in putting up sheet rock, mudding, sanding, putting down base board/trim around doors and windows and laying floors of tile, ceramics and hardwood. Painters are also in demand, as well as the occasional wallpaper hanger. If you don’t possess some of these skills, call your local Lowe’s and/or Home Depot for training sessions. Sometimes they’ll run separate sessions for large groups.
Additional Information: At Olive Tree we’ll provide you with comfortable accommodations, good food, hot showers and good fellowship. If you have a guitar or another transportable instrument, bring it. We have a piano, and maybe we can have an evening jam session.
