| The transition
from seminary student to pastor is challenging. Out of concern
for new pastors, the Committee on Theological Education and
PC(USA) made a joint proposal and in 1998 The General Assembly
Council created The Entrance Into Pastoral Ministry Work group.
Members of the group included seminary staff and members of
presbytery ministry committees.
They were asked to consider:
- Stronger partnerships for vocational guidance
- Resources for newly ordained pastors
- The possibility of a period of licensure
- Ordination exams
The results of their research and their recommendations were
approved by the General Assembly in 2001.

Into Pastoral Ministry Initiative
- Licensure? EIPM Report recommends that CPMs use their authority
to guide candidates to supervised pastoral experiences before
ordination.
The
Seminary Debt Assistance Program was created by the Board
of Pensions in 2000. Grants are available for graduates of Presbyterian
Church (U.S.A.) seminaries in the first 7 years of pastoral
ministry.
