Mission Challenge '07

What's the Challenge?

In order to strengthen the bond between PC(USA) missionaries and our churches, we present a challenge for every congregation to identify and uphold at least one PC(USA) missionary through prayer, advocacy and financial support. The World Mission program office is coordinating an unprecedented mission itineration this fall where thirty Presbyterian missionaries will visit more than 130 presbyteries and share the stories of God’s work in the world today.

We are asking presbyteries to:

  1. Arrange a full week of speaking events for a missionary among churches in the presbytery
  2. Provide housing and local transportation for the missionary during that week
  3. Promote Mission Challenge ’07 within the presbytery so that every congregation will choose at least one missionary to uphold through prayer advocacy and financial support
The World Mission program unit of PC(USA) will cover the travel expenses to and from the presbytery.

We are asking congregations to:

  • Find out if your presbytery is hosting a missionary during Mission Challenge ’07
  • Arrange for the missionary to speak in your church, if possible
  • Help the presbytery host the missionary by providing housing, meals or local transportation
Prayerfully consider accepting the challenge for each congregation to support at least one PC(USA) missionary through prayer, advocacy and financial support.

Our history, our tradition…

The PC(USA) has 275 mission personnel in 60 countries serving terms of two years or longer. Another 80 Young Adult Volunteers are serving for a year in a community of need in 10 sites in the United States and eight international sites.

The Presbyterian Church has been a mission-sending agency for 174 years, beginning work in Africa and India in 1833 and China in 1837.

The PC(USA) is committed to participating in God’s mission throughout the world in partnership with other members of the body of Christ. We believe that the denominational practice of sending mission personnel is viable, sustainable and valuable.
