July 2003
Greetings from the Land of the Rising Sun!
One exciting thing to report this month is the upcoming release
of the Japanese version of the video, "Unlocking the Mysteries
of Life.” With my dad’s help, Lisa did the preliminary
translation on this excellent hour-long video, and the Japanese
staff working on it has done an outstanding job of the voice-over
into Japanese. We received a preliminary copy a couple of days
ago, and the video will be released next month when the jacket
is ready.
If you are not familiar with this video, it was released last
year by "Illustra Media" (see their web site at www.illustramedia.com),
and has been mainly marketed by "Focus on the Family,”
which at first might seem an unusual combination, as Focus on
the Family normally only deals with family-related materials.
The Japan branch of Focus likewise is taking the lead in marketing
the video here. Already, Tim has made two presentations using
parts of the video, and on July 13, he will be making a science/faith
presentation at a church in Tokyo using the entire 56-minute video
to be followed by discussion. The response to the two partial
previews was excellent, and those who viewed it are looking forward
to seeing the entire video. Please remember this new effort in
your prayers, as we expectantly pray that this video will cause
many people to realize that there truly is a Creator who they
are accountable to. The video itself does not refer to God or
the Bible per se, and simply shows through beautiful photography
and computer animation the inner workings of the tiny molecular
machines that make life possible. In fact, it is being shown on
PBS stations around the United States, so check your local listings
for that. The video shows how numerous top-rate scientists who
formerly believed in naturalistic evolution having been changing
their beliefs in the face of overwhelming evidence for intelligent
design. Its evangelistic appeal is from the discussions that it
generates, as it opens the door for introducing the God of the
Bible as the only "Designer" who matches the characteristics
of the design demands. It gives a whole new meaning to the term
"designer genes"!
